epic failure

Posted in Uncategorized by antisociology on October 23, 2008

The last two weeks have felt crushingly horrible. For some reason, I feel like I’m spinning my wheels, spending ages on things that shouldn’t take ages. On top of that, I always seem to be tracking three or four issues that are “top priority”. Ergh.

In the spirit of epic failure, here is an NYT Op-Ed by Margaret Atwood on the current financial turmoil: A Matter of Life and Debt

Resolutions

Posted in Uncategorized by antisociology on October 19, 2008

It’s a little early to be making resolutions, but here are some things I want to get better at:

  1. Filing paper
  2. Getting rid of useless paper
  3. Eating breakfast
  4. Waking up before 8AM
  5. Eating/cooking food in the fridge before it goes bad
  6. Trying new recipes
  7. Post-laundry ironing
  8. Reading more, web-browsing less
  9. Cleaning up the apartment before going to bed
  10. Putting the dishes away before going to work
  11. Turning out the lights before falling asleep
  12. Running and cycling regularly
Edit:
I’m struck by how, except when you’re young, you really need to prioritize in life, figuring out in what order you should divide up your time and energy. If you don’t get that sort of system set by a certain age, you’ll lack focus and your life will be out of balance. — Haruki Murakami in “What I Talk About When I Talk About Running”
I’m fucked.

Behind

So, I am probably the last person in my group of friends to jump on the smartphone bandwagon. I just got myself an iPhone and am well impressed.

Having a full-fledged browser in my pocket is amazing, to say nothing of location aware applications. Just today, I used the phone to locate a Citinank ATM near the restaurant I was heading to. I know I’m a geek, but that still blows my socks off!

Apple’s also done an incredible job making text entry easy and reliable. The predictive text and spell checker work a treat. They have also done a great job accompdating fat fingers on a crowded screen by selectively magnifying parts. The proof in the pudding is that I’m writing this post in the phone.

I’m hoping I don’t turn into one of those annoying people who are constantly checking their phone.
