[This has been sitting in my drafts folder for quite some time…]

Some of you already know this, but for those who don’t, I just accepted a job offer from a company here in NYC. They made a very good offer, and my skill set fits in very well with what they are looking for. The great thing about the job is that it is mostly software development, but part of my responsibility is also to do a little ad hoc social research. My first day at work was on Monday.

Taking this job pretty much means that I’m stepping out of academia. I may or may not be able to get a leave of absence from the university. At this point, I don’t really care. I’ve found a place where I can do work that I enjoy, get paid a decent wage, and contribute early on to the development of new technology.

Tomorrow, I will probably buy my first monthly Metrocard. I’ve also started waking up waaaay before my usual 10AM wakeup time. Having a job to get to helps with that. Hopefully, in a few weeks my body will have adjusted. Right now, I am working part time at the new company, and part time at Columbia. I’m itching to go full time, though, because having to divide my attention is difficult to deal with. Three months. I just have to stick it out for three months.

Hello world!

So, it turns out I’m kind of tired of having to run a machine at home. I’ve therefore moved Antisociology over to WordPress. It seems to have nice features, a friendly interface, and several very nice themes. I’ve also made some big decisions lately that deserve moving some things around, ending old projects, and starting new ones. More in a following post.
